A lot of u guys talk a lot of crap. I actually agree;the songs are VERY similar.Lucky is just slower. They dont have to b about the samething to sound alike. I dont,however, think Jason copied. But they definatly have the same melody and can b easily confused

lucky sounds NOTHING like DAVID at all….. by the way i love jason mraz and trust me it sounds nothing like it but the music a lil bit …. but besides that nothing

Lucky uses a very common chord progression. It is a I iv ii V then a iii iv ii V which both have been used in jazz, classical, and do-wop forever. For example, in rhythm changes(like Oleo, Lester Leaps In, even parts of Rubber Ducky from Sesame St.) or for a turn-around at the end of musical phrase in thousands of standard songs. It would be hard to say that Jason is copying anything in particular more than anyone who has ever written a blues song (another commonly used progression). Also, David centers around a minor key whereas Lucky centers around a major key. At the expense of being a bit condescending I have to say it seems like you need to listen and study to more music so that you can tell between the more subtle and not so subtle differences in these two songs. I’m not really seeing a whole lot of parallels here other than the musical genre…

May i just say ,who ever made this up had absolutly nothing else to do because this is a whole load of rubbish !!
That song “David” sounds so common compared to “Lucky”. Jason Mraz is one of the most Talented song writters there is around lately and don’t even tey anything dodgey agaist him because no one will belive you. On the other hand David’ songwritter just seemed so bored when she wrote that song.. i mean seriously ? David call me ?

wow, you keep saying that she needs to get a life? you’re the fools that read this stuff. i listened to both songs and i have to agree with sonia, the melody does sound a bit alike, but the content is completely different. its arguable, and your wasting your time fighting about it in your stupid comments. jason mraz is talented, very much so, but nellie mckay is too.

No way. Jason is way too cute to be a copycat. I have total faith in him. Btw, I’m not totally going by my hormonal opinion, I listened to the songs. Nellie McCkay’s song sucks like all of her songs and Jason’s is bad ass, like all of his songs. The similarity is very rough. Maybe she just influenced him (yeah right)…

it would be hard to argue this at all because Jason has a strong fan base n if this other peron who ever it is is not very well known then no one would pickup on that. Maybe he simply sampled it which would mean he has permission to use what he wants from the song. from reading what other people say though it seems that David and Lucky are two completly different songs. Oh yeah and by the wy you might want to learn how to use English properly before trying to make a statement. it has more emphasis.

I listened to David and oh my goodness people… get with it. David is crap anyways and in all of this world there comes a time that eventually maybe some people might write similar related wording to anything and everything. Even if Mraz was inspired by that song.. whatever the deal, he made it better. It is better than David and I think people are just completely reach for something to complain about..
