There’s been a lot of talk about how Christina Aguilera has been ripping off of Lady Gaga’s visual and musical style. In several interviews, Christina has made disses on Lady Gaga so it should be right that she fire back. However, Lady Gaga has gone the diplomatic route in response to Christina’s digs. When asked to comment about the digs, Lady Gaga said “I don’t take offense to it. I’m inspired by androgyny and David Bowie and Grace Jones.” She was also asked to comment on Christina’s MTV VMAs performance which people say stole way too much from Gaga. She said “The performance bared a resemblance. I don’t have a “look”. I dress like this all the time. I have no enemies.” Christina better take some notes.

Excuse me!, Let’s look at the time line here. Christina has been performing for atleast the last ten years. Of that time she has dressed from the most formal to the most provocative ways to include make-up and hair styles. Now let’s look at Lady Gaga. Well, She has been performing for the past five years of which only two to three years has she been known. And only for the past one year has she been popular. Now don’t get me wrong, I love both of the ladies, but I believe if anyone should be acused of copying it should be Lady Gaga. Christina has been sporting the lon blond hair long before Gaga came on the scene.

Despite Christina having an amazingly powerful voice, I must say that Lady Gaga wins this one.
Yes, we all know that Christina was blonde first, blah, blah, blah… but IT IS NOT ABOUT THAT – The arguement is who had the OVERALL STYLE first.
Lady Gaga has actually been rocking this Glamrock meets Glampop, Ziggy Stardust-esque style since she began performing as a neo-burlesque dancer, well before she became a performer. Also, she actually worked as a songwriter before becoming a performer as well – which I find shows who the true artist really is (Christina was technically a product of Disney… plus she has reinvented herself a few times now).
As for who is prettier – naturally most people would lean towards Christina, but Lady Gaga has made it apparent that her style is not necissarily about looking pretty – rather than just getting glammed up for the camera, like Christina, Gaga lives and breathes her artwork which is, essentialy, being an entertainer. Her outfits are bizzare and unique, her music is catchy, and her performances are eye catching – she is not trying to be the worlds greatest musician, nor does she claim to be (though, her voice is definitely not bad! she has some power behind it… plus, she should get bonus points for writing her own songs) – she is here to put on a show and, whether you love her or you hate her, you just cannot help but watch – so either way, she is successful!
To me, that is the mark of a true artist (being able to evoke some sort of emotion).

To get into the argument of who’s better and who’s skankier, I’d like everyone to please go back a few years and look at Christina’s old style. It was horrendous. And she was a blossoming artist at the time. Now, she’s figured herself out, found herself as a person, and guess what? She looks awesome. GaGa’s style is very similar to Christina’s in one way – it stands out. But at least GaGa can match colors and hair and pieces together. Christina sort of failed at that at first.
As for musical talent, Christina wins hands down when it comes to being a real “artist”. I was using the term loosing above, but GaGa is not an artist. She’s a singer. GaGa might morph slowly into an artist, like Christina did.
