Thousands of Americans who witnessed the pre-inaugural concert of US President Barack Obama were bowled over by the stellar list of celebrities who performed during the concert especially Sheryl Crow, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen and a lot more. The “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial” held in Washington, D.C. last January 18 was a star-studded event. Obama, his wife Michelle and their kids as well as Vice President Biden and his wife were seated near the stage but were covered by a bullet-proof glass.

Springsteen’s “The Rising” was a rousing performance made more memorable by the gospel choir who wore red and white robes that stunningly contrasted with Springsteen’s black. While everyone was nostalgic when the famous words of John F. Kennedy were read by Martin Luther King III they all started to loosen up with Mary J. Blige’s rendition of “Lean On Me” and Jon Bon Jovi’s duet with Betty LaVette. The crowd, which became serious once again when Tom Hanks talked about Abraham Lincoln, became upbeat again when James Taylor, Faith Hill and John Legend sang together. John Mellencamp’s “Ain’t That America” was a fitting tribute to VP Biden’s speech about work being not only about money but dignity and respect.

American Idol continues on its ratings decline season after season. Last week’s season premiere saw a 10% slide in viewership from last season’s opener. But for the first time in five seasons, the second episode actually went up in the ratings. The second episode grew 1% in adults 18-49 which is big news considering the second episodes of the season have been dropping notably since 2004. Mike Darnell of Fox said “The little changes we’re making are having a big impact. It’s really amazing. To be up in the demo — that hasn’t happened in five years, and I was shocked that we ever did it before. And to be at 100% audience retention from last year in this environment for the biggest show on TV? That’s fantastic.”

Music mogul Clive Davis is having his long time protégé Whitney Houston perform at his star-studded pre-Grammy party happening next month. The fallen diva is set to belt out her brand new tracks off of her upcoming album. Clive has also announced that Whitney’s new album will be dropping in stores in March. I hope she gets this one right. I doubt she’s going to get offered any more chances if she screws up. I hope her songs are like the ones from the good old days – before she went wack. Apparently, the singer is still recording some stuff so let’s hope she’s open to my suggestion.
