Carrie Underwood won the night’s top honors at the 2009 Academy of Country Music Awards which was held at the MGM Grand on Sunday in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 26-year old American Idol champ picked up Top Female Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year, which was a fan-voted category this year, beating out Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and George Strait. During her acceptance speech, Carrie gave a shout out to her Ottawa Senators hockey player boyfriend Mike Fisher saying “Mike baby, I wish you were here.” During the ceremony, Carrie also performed her hit song ‘I Told You So’.

Jessica Simpson has been dropped by her label Sony Nashville, which put out her poorly received country album last year. However, the wannabe’s camp is trying to spin things. They are saying that Jess was only on loan to Sony Nashville and are assuring the media that Jess “is and has always been an Epic artist.” In other words, they are trying to get people to believe that she still has a recording contract with the parent company. I doubt they will put out an album of hers though. Jess has claimed to have dumped pop music for a country music career. Why can’t she just quit?
