Taylor Swift Talks Competition

Taylor Swift recently talked to the Associated Press about who she sees as her competition in the industry. The country singing cutie shared “I don’t compete with other people in the industry. I compete with myself. If I looked at every other girl in the entertainment industry as competition, my life would be really lonely. I wouldn’t have some of the coolest friends that I’m so glad I’ve gotten to know over the last couple of years… It’s really awesome to get to hang out with those girls and to call them friends.” A very diplomatic answer. Of course, there’s also that old adage of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer.

Beyoncé reportedly had a near-miss at a recent gig – when a fan breached security and managed to get close to her.

It is claimed Beyoncé, 27, was walking with bodyguards between the stage and her sister Solange’s dressing room at London’s IndigO2 club when the man tried to speak to her.

Earlier in the evening, the singer had performed at London’s O2 Arena as part of her I Am… tour.

An onlooker said: “A man barged through the backstage door just as Beyoncé was walking past.”

The onlooker added: “He cried out her name with his arms outstretched before security bundled him back out again.

“He said he wanted to see Jay-Z to give him a demo tape.”

Elton John Talks Prop 8

Sir Elton John, who got married to his Canadian partner David Furnish the first day civil partnerships were allowed in England, recently spoke to etalk in Canada about the ruling in California that upheld Prop 8. The singer said “That’s just awful. I mean when you see places like Iowa saying yes and there’s now five states [in favour] in America…and California is supposed to be a progressive state it just defies logic to me and I’m very disappointed with that.” Very well said. Considering the very diverse cultures in California, I’m really surprised that the state is turning out to be the most stuck up of them all regarding the matter.

Piers Morgan said his heart “absolutely bleeds” for Susan Boyle after media reports she flipped out in a hotel lobby

Piers Morgan said his heart “absolutely bleeds” for Susan Boyle after media reports she flipped out in a hotel lobby.

Susan, 47, reportedly had a foul-mouthed rant after she heard judge Piers, 44, praising another contestant on Britain’s Got Talent.

It is claimed Susan was later spoken to by police when she had another dispute with reporters.

Piers wrote on his blog: “Imagine, if you will, being anonymous for 47 years of your life, and then suddenly being propelled into genuine world superstardom. For many people, it would be a dream come true.”

He added: “All that fame and attention, and the prospect of all that money to come with it down the line. But let me tell you now, there is a downside to fame. People start criticising you, sniping at you, trying to trip you up, belittle you, harass you.”

The semi-finals are still taking place to find the final contestants to compete in the upcoming final. Susan already has a place in the final after appearing in the first semi-final and winning the public vote.

Piers added: “Then imagine, too, having all this go on when you are days away from the final of a competition that can make or break your career and your life. A competition that everyone expects you to win, a fact that in itself piles on even more pressure. This is exactly the situation that Susan Boyle now finds herself in.”

He added: “And my heart absolutely bleeds for the poor woman.”

Kylie Minogue is Getting Married

According to reports in Australia, Kylie Minogue is reportedly planning to marry the gorgeous 31-year old male model Andres Velencoso. The singer and the model have been dating for about a year now and are reportedly house hunting in Tossa Del Mar, only minutes away from the Spanish city of Barcelona. Kylie was at Cannes last week and slyly talked to reporters about her man saying “I’m happier with him than I have ever been before, you never know he could be the one.” With the news of their engagement running rampant down under, I guess he really is the one.

The theme song for the new James Bond movie is up for grabs once again and the studio’s two choices for its performer are Amy Winehouse and Duffy. The two females are said to be considered once again after being rumored to be providing the theme to ‘Quantum of Solace’. Only Wino had a real chance back then but producer Mark Ronson claimed that the train wreck of a singer wasn’t ready to head into the studio. It still doesn’t look like she’s ready to get back to serious work this time either so my money is all on Duffy.

Woman in Justin Timberlake lawsuit ‘ambushed’

A woman who sued Justin Timberlake’s restaurant claims she was ambushed at home by an intruder who warned her, “You better watch your back.”

Alison McDaniel, 29, claims she was the victim of sexual harassment while working at Timberlake’s Southern Hospitality barbecue joint.

Now, she alleges that a burglar was lying in wait for her at her Manhattan apartment on May 20, five days after the lawsuit was filed.

She claims he hissed the caution at her, then walked out at around 8.30pm, according to a police report that recorded the incident.

In her suit, McDaniel – a former general manager at Southern Hospitality who was fired – alleged that her supervisors harassed her and watched pornography on the restaurant’s computers.

Jacko Postpones Shows

Michael Jackson has already announced the postponement of his first four London concerts. I knew something like this was going to happen. Jacko’s first show has been pushed back 5 days to July 13 and the other 3 were postponed until March of 2010. Concert promoters are saying that it’s because they need more time to set u the complex stage. However, some sources close to the situation are saying that Jacko is pushing back the dates because he’s physically unable to get through an entire show. I guess we just have to wait until July to find out – unless he blows off those dates too.

Mariah Carey is coming out with a new album soon. The singer recently went on her Twitter to announce the name of her upcoming record. She said that it is going to be called ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel’. From the singer who has albums called ‘Butterfly’, ‘Rainbow’, ‘Glitter’ and ‘Charm Bracelet’, it’s a pretty dark title. Dark for Mariah that is. I like it though. I hope she comes out with a new sound too and songs with better lyrics. I’m tired of the cheesiness of her last album. Things can’t be peachy and perfect all the time, can it? I wonder if Nick Cannon will contribute anything to it.

Simon Cowell’s Ex Gets Attacked

After attending the American Idol finale last week, Simon Cowell’s ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour was attacked outside the Nokia Theatre. The suspect, Janice Thibodeaux, asked Terri if she was Simon’s girlfriend and allegedly began to choke her. The assailant has been charged with felony battery and is being held on $52,700 bail. What a nut! Was she in love with Simon or something that she had to attack an innocent person? Fortunately, Terri didn’t sustain any serious injuries and was escorted out of the complex by three cops. I’m glad that she’s ok. Hopefully, her attacker won’t be given a simple slap on the wrist.

Eminem recently sat down with the Metro Times for an in depth interview on everything about him. The rapper talked about his new album, his infamous music videos, especially his most recent where he made fun of Jessica Simpson. He apparently had a conflict with having to portray the failed country singer but somehow got over it for the sake of the “music”. In the interview, Eminem basically disses the fact that Jessica got fat. Anyway, when he talked of why he does his videos the way he does them, he said “”Because I think that my videos are little time capsules. Usually my first singles off of each record are little time capsules of what’s going on in pop culture right at that moment.

Michael Johns to Perform on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Former American Idol finalist, MICHAEL JOHNS will be performing his new single “Heart on My Sleeve” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show next Monday, May 25th. The Aussie vocalist will be releasing his first post-Idol solo album, Hold Back My Heart on June 23rd. Encouraged by his mentor David Foster, who invited Johns to appear on his star-studded David Foster And Friends PBS special in December 2008, Johns chose the road less traveled, and for the first time in his adult life, went to work on an album with no deal in place. “Foster always said that the secret of his success is to look at whatever lane is open in the music industry and take it,” Johns recalls. “And the way my record combines old and new, I could open for Alicia Keys one night and John Mayer the next, it’s right in the middle.” Songwriter Diane Warren, who penned the knee-buckling ballad “Heart Is Weak,” was another key endorsement. “There’s nothing more validating than having these heavyweights behind you,” says Johns. “It’s like screw winning American Idol when people like David Foster and Diane Warren are saying you have the real thing here.”

With an album completed and ready to turn in, Johns had the rare freedom to shop it around, and when Downtown Records, home to Gnarls Barkley, Cold War Kids and Santigold, showed interest in a licensing deal, he jumped at the opportunity to finally control his own fate. “I think we’re in the most exciting period of music ever, because there’s so many ways to do it,” he says. And like most of his plans thus far, Johns is thinking big for his future. “The live show is going to be great,” he says excitedly. “I might even take it old school with different bands in different towns — almost like what Chuck Berry and all those guys used to do.”

Tune in to see Michael Johns on The Ellen DeGeneres Show next Monday, May 25th. Check your local listings for times.

New Video from Rise Against for Hero of War now Premiering on Myspace!

The following is a message from the band:

We’ve just completed our new video for the song “Hero Of War” off of our record, Appeal To Reason. “Hero Of War” is the story of one soldier, not all soldiers, as he battles not just the war around him, but the war that rages within. Inspired by true events, we were given the choice to either document the tribulations of these times as they unfold around us, or ignore them. To ignore these problems, in our opinion, is letting down the brave men and women who risk everything. “Hero Of War” is our attempt to lift the stigma that surrounds everything from the skyrocketing suicide rate of troops, torture, internal sexual abuse, an under-funded VA, and the growing number of military personnel fighting Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as they return home. We hope this song and this video help the simmering dialogue about these problems evolve into a rolling boil.

-Rise Against

“The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naive and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who loves his country more than the rest of us, and is thus more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair.”- H.L. Mencken
