Singer Adam Lambert and his boyfriend, interior designer Drake LaBry, are calling it quits – at least that’s according to a source close to the now former couple. The source said “The relationship just ran its course. The break-up was mutual and amicable. They remain friends and still care for each other.” When one of the people involved happens to be in the entertainment industry, that reason is kind of hard to believe. I wonder what the real reason is for their break up. They’ve been pretty all up on each other up until a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if the American Idol alum has found someone else.
Jennifer Hudson is a busy girl with her music and film careers, not to mention that she’s a new mom! That’s not stopping the American Idol alum and Academy Award-winning actress from taking on other projects though. Jennifer is in talks to portray the lead role in a biopic about South African leader Winnie Mandela. Derek Luke or Idris Elba are rumored to be tapped to play husband Nelson Mandela but nothing can be confirmed yet. Winnie is a controversial political figure who has long since been divorced from Nelson and eventually found her way into some legal troubles and on the receiving end of criticism from her native country. That sounds intense!
Country singer Carrie Underwood’s hit single ‘Cowboy Casanova’ is burning up the charts and she’s about to unleash another song off of her upcoming album ‘Play On’ which is out on November 3. The American Idol alum uses her new song ‘Mama’s Song’ to thank her mom for teaching her some very important lessons in life. Billboard.com has a preview of the song and here are some lyrics “You’ve given me everything that I will need / To make it through this crazy thing called life/ And I know you watched me grow up and only want what’s best for me.”
Country singer Carrie Underwood recently visited the Grand Ole Opry House to flip a switch to turn the backdrop pink to symbolize the fight against breast cancer in Nashville, Tennessee. The 26-year old Aemrican Idol alum told CMT “There are a lot of people out there who have been fighters and who have made it through cancer, but there are a lot of us who don’t want to have to go through that fight. Of course, nobody wants to, but we want to make sure that doesn’t happen, so we’re honoring the people who have been through it and who have made it through it. We’re supporting them, we’re raising awareness and we’re hoping to stop it in its tracks.”
His career will never be as fruitful as Kelly Clarkson but at the very least, Justin Guarini’s love life seems to have held up better than hers. The American Idol runner up married his high school sweetheart this past weekend near their hometown in Pennsylvania. The pair had a spiritual service in which they have written their own vows and had an alternative string quartet playing a song selection from the likes of Radiohead, Paramore and Peter Gabriel. The wedding was an intimate family affair which was attended by only a few close family and friends, including the singer’s new wife’s 4-year old daughter from a previous relationship.
American Idol alums Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler showed their support at the ACM Honors ceremony held at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center last Tuesday in Nashville, Tennessee. Carrie honored Randy Travis for his excellence in the country music industry over the past 24 years by singing his song ‘I Told You So’. The young blonde singer also has a new song out on iTunes and Amazon called ‘Cowboy Cassanova’ which comes off of her third album ‘Play On’ which will go on sale on November 3. Carrie’s single is already burning up the charts! I’m pretty sure her album is going to sail to number 1 too.
Jennifer Hudson performed at the 2009 VH1 Divas which was held at New York City’s Brooklyn Academy of Music last Thursday. The 28-year old American Idol alum performed her hit song ‘Spotlight’ and her own rendition of Stevie Wonder’s ‘All in Love is Fair’ along with the iconic singer himself. Considering that she just gave birth a month ago, Jennifer looked absolutely stunning. Her singing is also on point, making it seem like she’s been practicing even when she was still pregnant. She has a 1-month old son and she said that she looks forward to seeing “who he becomes, who he takes after, what he decides to do, if he’ll sing.”
Carrie Underwood has a new single out called ‘Cowboy Casanova’. The song is the first single off of the country singer’s upcoming third album called ‘Play On’ which will come out on November 3. The song was co-written with Mike Elizondo and Brett James. I’m pretty sure that the song will become another hit much like the rest of Carrie’s songs. And I’m sure that the album will be a hit too. I don’t think there’s a Carrie tune that I haven’t fallen in love with. The 26-year old American Idol champ has also shot the music video for the song last week but the release date is still unknown.
Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry recently joined American Idol as guest judges during the final two days of auditions in Los Angeles last week. The two singer sat at the judges table next to Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi while the final group of wannabes tried for a golden ticket to Hollywood. Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry completed the list of guest judges. Other judges include Victoria Beckham in Denver and Boston, Mary J. Blige in Atlanta, Joe Jonas and Neil Patrick Harris in Dallas, Kristin Chenoweth in Orlando and Shania Twain in Chicago. I can’t wait for the next season of the show!

TV talent judge Simon Cowell has admitted he misses having Paula Abdul alongside him on the American Idol panel.
The acid-tongued Brit says the show is “different” without Paula’s often cryptic and bizarre comments.
He told US TV show Extra: “I miss her, of course.”
Cowell told how he doesn’t want to “get in the middle” of the money row between Paula and American Idol bosses.
He said the chemistry between the judges – himself, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi – is “different” since Paula’s departure.
But he didn’t want to elaborate for Extra reporter Terri Seymour, his ex-girlfriend.
He said: “It’s like comparing a carrot to a banana. They are different.”
Carrie Underwood surprised the students of Checotah High School in Checotah, Oklahoma last Friday when the American Idol alum donated over $117,000 worth in new music instruments. The donation was a joint gift from the 26-year old singer’s CATS Foundation (Checotah Animal, Town and Schools) and ACM (Academy of Country Music) Lifting Lives. Carrie said “I am so proud to have come from such a wonderful community that helped shape me as a person. And I can think of nothing better than to share the gift of music with the students in my hometown. It’s so great to be able to give back in a way that can truly better the lives of these kids and help create dreams and opportunities.”
What is it with young singers and wanting to have kids already? First, there was Lily Allen. Now, there’s Katherine McPhee. On the set of the American Idol alum’s new music video ‘Had it All’, the singer was asked if she was ready to have kids with husband Nick Cokas. Katherine responded with “It’s sort of hard to plan… I really want to live out the record. Plus, I really like kids, but when they start crying it really makes me nervous. I don’t think I’m quite there yet.” At the very least, Kat isn’t a lush like Lily Allen.

Paula Abdul recently announced on her Twitter that she will be hosting VH1’s Divas Live come this September. Congratulations to her for nabbing a great gig. The former American Idol judge said “Hi guys! im really excited 2 announce ill b hosting this year’s “Vh1 Divas”!The show will be live on Sept 17th @ 9 pm EST.” Some of the big name performances slated for the special this year will be Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Adele and Miley Cyrus. Maybe they can get Paula to have an opening dance number for the show. So who’s excited to see Paula working again?
In an interview with the LA Times, Paula Abdul’s manager David Sonenberg dished about what’s next for the former American Idol judge. And according to him, there’s no talk of American Idol. He said “She loves Idol. She feels she was a large part of the reason it is what it is. I can tell you her focus right now is speaking to all the other networks. The only one we haven’t talked to, because of recent events, is Fox. But perhaps we would be speaking to Fox about shows in the near future.” So for now, don’t hold your breath for Paula being back in American Idol soon.
American Idol alum Jordin Sparks will soon be opening for Britney Spears on the second North American leg of her Circus tour. Since the Pussycat Dolls seem to be having all sorts of trouble, I guess the pop star wanted a little less drama around. Jordin recently gushed about joining the tour saying “Britney’s show is incredible and for me to be a part of it is a great opportunity.” The singer will be performing at all of Britney’s North American dates, leading up to closing night on September 27th at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas. Congrats to Jordin for getting the gig.
Paula Abdul isn’t missing a beat after getting booted off of American Idol. Sources say that she spent a day last week with ABC exec Steve McPherson. It’s being said that he wants the former judge to be a contestant on Dancing with the Stars and that there was even talk of making her a guest judge. That’s not going to happen though as Paula and Carrie Ann Inaba don’t get along. But Steve, who happens to be good friends with Paula, also wants her to do a guest appearance on ‘Ugly Betty’. If she does do those jobs, what could it mean for her possible return to American Idol?
Two American Idol champions and one American Idol runner up performed several songs during Good Morning America’s Summer Concert Series at New York City’s Rumsey Playfield last Friday. Adam Lambert performed his own rendition of Muse’s ‘Starlight’, David Cook performed his third single ‘Come Back to Me’ from his album, and Kris Allen performed an acoustic version of Kanye West’s ‘Heartless’. The three singers came back together on stage to perform a cover of ‘Little Lies’. I wish I could have been part of that audience. The three of them had really great performances. And if that translates very well on video, you can only imagine how they are live.
Kelly Clarkson recently accused songwriter Ryan Tedder of reusing aspects of Beyonce’s ‘Halo’ for the original American Idol champ’s new single ‘Already Gone’. The One Republic singer took to his official blog to clear the air, saying “…Alleging that I copied myself or “pulled a fast one” on Kelly Clarkson. This couldn’t be farther from the truth and the whole thing is absurd….however, I need to actually read what the hell is going on, make a call or 2, and be fully informed of it, then I assure you I will have a proper, respectful response. I don’t take allegations of this nature lightly- ESPECIALLY when it’s in regards to artists I respect and admire. Nor do I let things like this go unaddressed. So, give me a minute, and I’ll tell u whatsup and what really happened, or in this case, “didn’t” happen.” Oddly enough, he deleted this message shortly after posting it.
Despite reports that she has been cut, both Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest are more than positive that Paula Abdul will be returning to American Idol next season. Paula’s camp recently told the media that the judge has yet to receive a contract for season nine of the hit reality talent show from production head 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia, but her co-stars are lobbying for her. Simon said “She’ll be fine. She’ll be on the show. I don’t get a lot of say. I’ve just made it clear that I want Paula on the show. Full stop.” I wonder if he’ll walk out on his contract if they don’t get Paula on the show.
It has recently been revealed that one of the world’s favorite country singers, Carrie Underwood, will be releasing a new album before the end of this year. The American Idol alum’s record label, 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville have announced that Carrie’s new, as-of-yet untitled album is scheduled to be released on November 3. If you don’t have much patience to wait for that, the good news is that a single will soon be hitting your favorite radio station some time over the summer. I can’t wait to hear it. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be another wonderful song and a great album from her.
