Aaron Kelly’s Lonestar cover

Here’s one of the American Idol contestants who apparently managed to get just one judge on his back. For last night, Aaron Kelly chose to cover Lonestar’s “I’m already there” and he apparently did a pretty good job… with a few minor setbacks. Three of the four judges seemed to agree, except for Kara DioGuardi who said: “Honey, it’s not relevant to your life.” Simon Cowell of course jumped at her throat and said her remark was total rubbish and that Aaron Kelly’s song was a good choice… albeit a bit difficult. Is Kara DioGuardi going for insults now? Either way, it does seem that Aaron Kelly has a bit of a setback for him, but maybe he’ll be around next week too to make up for it.

Crystal Bowersox is still in the lead

The girls of American Idol had another run for their money last night and, surprise surprise, Crystal Bowersox is still in the lead with her performance of Tracy Chapman’s “Give me one reason”. Ellen DeGeneres was apparently so moved she could utter nothing more than “Best performance of the night” to describe Crystal Bowersox. Simon Cowell too is apparently feeling very optimistic about her: “You are the one everybody has to beat, I’m telling you. It’s yours to lose.” Always ever so thoughtful… that’s Simon Cowell for you. However, Crystal Bowersox need not worry as she will stay to sing another day.

Due to American Idol contestant Crystal Bowersox’s illness that got her a 24 hour visit to the hospital last Monday, the boys and girls performance dates were switched so she could have some time to recoup for Wednesday’s show. And as usual, the aspiring singer rocked the judges. Crystal took to the AI Twitter page to give insight to what happened to her saying “Don’t worry, my ‘beetus (diabetes) is under control. Thanks for all your well wishes, thanks to the boys, and the producers!!” She should really take care of herself more. Elliot Yamin was able to keep himself together for a whole season with his diabetes so I’m hoping the same for Crystal.

American Idol contestants get only one twitter and one facebook

Even though all of the show’s contestants had their own twitter and facebook accounts established so that they could tell all of their friends about the wondrous adventures they were having with the candy king, Simon Cowell, and his pack of dirty little helpers, it looks like Fox Entertainment doesn’t want them spoiling any surprises the show might hold and thus making the network miss any ratings points. So it looks like all of the American Idol contestants are going to have to share one facebook and one twitter account from now on… which will probably be an immense bore as nobody will be likely to be saying anything. And this happens just when things were starting to get interesting…

Gravity failed John Park

Or rather John Park is the one that didn’t quite do John Mayer’s song, “Gravity”, all its justice. It looks like he’s also one of the American Idol contestants that might have to go home early on. Even though Simon Cowell does seem to be a sweet judge when it comes to the really bad performances, he really did a number on John Park’s: “There’s nothing to get excited about that — it’s what I call a ’so what’ performance.” Wow… that must’ve stung. But maybe it’s not such a bad thing for John Park after all… and maybe he can even show Simon Cowell a thing or two when The X Factor comes to America.

American Idol host Ryan Seacrest thinks Simon Cowell will be a “very generous” husband.

Cowell, 50, is rumoured to be engaged to his make-up artist girlfriend Mezhgan Hussainy, 36, after she stepped out with a large ring on her wedding finger.

Seacrest was asked how Cowell will be as a husband and he told UsMagazine.com: “Self-centred! But he is very generous.”

He added: “I hope that if they are building a life together, there aren’t too many mirrors around to distract him from his girlfriend!”

Seacrest added that he doesn’t know anything about the plans of a possible wedding.

He said: “I don’t know that there is a wedding. I have not seen an invitation!”

James, 27, who was a member of the jazz band and tennis team during his years at Millsap High School, in Texas, caught DioGuardi’s eye when he performed an acoustic version of Bryan Adams’ hit Heaven on the US talent show.

On his senior page, James wrote that his greatest influence is his grandfather and that his plan was “to be a famous blues musician”.

Simon Cowell’s pal “Nasty” Nigel Lythgoe has said the American Idol judge will marry his new girlfriend Mezhgan Hussainy.

Lythgoe, 50, revealed that Cowell, also 50, and new girlfriend Hussainy, 36, have known each other for seven years and called them a “beautiful couple”.

He added that Cowell would make a brilliant dad and that he uses his pets as substitutes for children.

Lythgoe, who is said to be currently dating model Jerry Hall, said: “I know how much he loves animals. He is using them to supplement his need for children. I think it would be good for him to worry about someone else and a family other than himself.

“There needs to be little Cowells running around the house!”

He added: “Simon and Mezhgan have known each other for seven years. Good luck to them. They make a beautiful couple. I am rather hoping Simon is going to ask me to be his best man. I really wish them the best.”

Madonna’s manager tipped to replace Simon Cowell on American Idol

Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary is being tipped to replace Simon Cowell as a judge on American Idol. Oseary is said to be keen to step into Cowell’s shoes on the hit Fox network show.

But while he may be a frontrunner, he could still have to convince execs that he can draw in viewers.

A TV insider said: “Guy has been in the music business since Madonna discovered him when he was 17, and he has a lot of the same experience as Simon.

“[But] his competition just can’t live up to his level of experience, and the people behind the show are slowly starting to realise it… producers are worried that viewers in suburban areas won’t know who Guy is. Simon has an incredible following, but the same can’t really be said for Guy.”

Oseary also looks after the career of Madonna’s ex, baseball star Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez.

A source close to Israeli-born Oseary, 38, said: “He was thrilled to hear that Fox was considering him. He thinks it would be great for his image. And it’s great exposure to boot.”

It follows a denial from actor Jamie Foxx that he would replace Cowell.

And US shock jock DJ Howard Stern has said he would take the job – if they paid him $100 million.

Meanwhile, Mariah Carey’s ex-husband, music mogul Tommy Mottola, has also found himself linked to the job. But television executives are said to be worried about giving him the role.

One told a US newspaper: “People really only know him as Mariah Carey’s big bad ex.

“And producers are worried he’ll even be harsher on contestants than Simon was.”

Cowell has said this season will be his last on American Idol so he can launch his X Factor show in the States.

Pants On The Ground lyrics: From the ninth season of American Idol Last night

Pants on the ground
Pants on the ground
Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground

With the gold in your mouth
Hat turned sideways
Pants hit the ground
Call yourself a cool cat
Lookin’ like a fool
Walkin’ downtown with your pants on the ground

Get it up, hey!
Get your pants off the ground
Lookin’ like a fool
Walkin’ talkin’ with your pants on the ground.

Get it up, hey!
Get your pants off the ground
Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground

American Idol judge Randy Jackson has hinted that Paula Abdul could appear on the US version of The X Factor.

Jackson, 53, is a judge on Idol and fellow judge Simon Cowell, 50, recently revealed he is to leave the show to set up a US version of talent show The X Factor.

Jackson admitted that he still hasn’t got over the departure of ex-judge Paula Abdul.

At a press conference, he said: “We look down the table sometimes and think: ‘Where’s Paula?’ It takes a little getting used to and we’re really sad about that, but welcoming Ellen [DeGeneres] to the fold… She’s funny, she’s charismatic, she’s really cool.”

Talking about the show, which will soon start its ninth season, he said: “I think we’re going to have a very funny, interesting season ahead of us.”

Jackson was also asked about Abdul making a return to Cowell’s new US X Factor.

He said: “I know she’s going to be back on something in a huge way because she’s mad talented. The thing I always say about this genre, especially in the music entertainment side, is expect the unexpected. You never know!”

But apparently she won’t be singing anymore, no Shania Twain is getting back into the spotlights as a journalist. Well, she will be guest judging the American Idol auditions, but let’s face it, guest judging means she’s just going to show up, smile for the camera and let Simon Cowell have his way with the candidates. But Shania Twain seems to have other things planned: she’s going to interview Queen Rania of Jordan on “The Current” radio. Well, well, looks like Shania Twain rolls in the best of circles nowadays, no more sleazy music industry people, now it’s royalty for her.

Adam Lambert’s New Man

Does Adam Lambert have a new man? Unbeknownst to the singer, he was secretly being videotaped by some hardcore fans at the after party for his New Year’s Eve performance in Los Angeles. And just what did those fans get on tape? It was none other than the American Idol alum’s so-called straight guitarist Tommy giving Adam a kiss on the lips. Interesting! I don’t know that many “straight” men that love to kiss openly gay guys on the lips. Maybe Adam was such a great kisser on the AMAs that Tommy decided to play for the home team – quite possible.

Carrie Underwood shows off her casual beauty on the January 2010 cover of Self magazine. The 26-year old American Idol alum talked about her biggest pet peeves, her ways to blow off some steam, and wanting to start a family. The singer, who is dating hockey player Mike Fisher, talked about family, saying “Not that I have a husband to have one with yet, but someday I’d like a family—not a big one, but not a small one either. Two kids is good; three is fine. Four? Somebody’s getting something done, because we ain’t having five!” The fact that she’s already talking like that makes me think that she’s ready to settle down with Mike.

Adam Lambert’s sexual orientation had nothing to do with ABC’s decision to cancel his appearance on two shows on their network but because the American Idol alum couldn’t stick to a script – at least that’s what the network and GLAAD would like you to believe. The nation’s most outspoken gay rights group just released a statement in support of ABC’s decision to pull the singer out of Jimmy Kimmel Live and an upcoming New Year’s Eve special in the wake of his AMA performance. GLAAD backed ABC’s explanation saying “It would appear that the kiss between Adam Lambert and his keyboardist did not factor into ABC’s decision … ABC has a history of positive gay and transgender inclusion that includes featuring kisses between gay and lesbian couples on-air.”

Those are two good choices, not only in the music industry but as a whole. Barbara’s interviews with them will air on Wednesday, December 9 on ABC. Also rumored to be on the list are Kate Gosselin, Sarah Palin, Tyler Perry and Glenn Beck. I wonder who the rest are.
