Amy Winehouse may be all doped up most of the time but that’s not stopping her from winning any awards. Wino came out with the award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for ‘Love is a Losing Game’ at the 53rd Ivor Novello Awards which was held in London on Thursday. The Ivors celebrate excellence in songwriting as hosted by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters. In true Wino fashion, she arrived too late to claim her award so her dad Mitch and mom Janis had to accept it in her behalf. Her dad said “She’s sorry she can’t be here but she sends her love. She is getting better and she’d like to send her love to everyone at the Ivors who first recognized her talent.”

Amy Winehouse Almost a No-Go

Amy Winehouse almost gave organizers of the Brit Awards a heart attack due to worrying after she missed her rehearsals on Monday. Fortunatly, Wino showed up on Tuesday and ran through her performance with Mark Ronson on their duet ‘Valerie’ which was originally sung by the Zutons. Later on in the evening, the 5-time Grammy winner and her producer hit up London’s Jazz After Dark.

It’s nice to see that she’s keeping up with her work. That only means that she’s finally got her priorities straight. Now if she could just split with her incarcerated husband then all will be good in the world.

Kylie X-Factor

Kylie Minogue

The winner of X-Factor 2008 says he got the best Christmas present ever by being given the chance to duet with the sensational pop-star Kylie Minogue.

I am sure it is every male’s dream to duet with the gorgeous Kylie, especially judging on what she wore. Some people would say that her sexy skimpy outfit wasn’t exactly suitable for family TV – though I expect it kept the male viewers tuned in which can’t have hurt the ratings.

But did Leon win on his own talent and ability or did he win thanks to his duet? The debate is bound to continue…

Stars at World Music Awards - Rihanna, Monte Carlo

The 2007 World Music Awards which was held at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club in Monte Carlo, Monaco on Sunday was truly a star-studded event. Even the Prince of Monaco was there!Julian McMahon of ‘Nip/Tuck’ was the host of the event which was attended by the likes of Rihanna, Avril Lavigne and Ciara. Rihanna was nominated and was also slated as a performer at the show. She looked gorgeous as ever in a flashy green gown. Avril, though I never really liked her sense of style, has made some improvement with her strapless black dress and Doc Martens. Props to Ciara for working two different but equally gorgeous outfits.

Beyonce in Moscow

Beyonce in Moscow

Beyonce Knowles was spotted sightseeing in Moscow, Russia with her stylist mom Tina Knowles last Thursday. The ‘Bootylicious’ singer took in the sights at the Red Square and even posed in front Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It’s the multi-tented church with distinctive onion domes for those who don’t know.

Beyonce is expected to make an appearance next Thursday for the MTV Europe Music Awards. Ugh. Why? Is she performing? Is she getting an award? Or is she simply going to be there to annoy people? Seriously, I am so over Beyonce that it’s not even funny. She should just disappear and I wouldn’t really care.

Billboard names Reba woman of the year

Billboard magazine has picked for its first “Woman of the Year” award. The magazine says the award coincides with its second annual Women in Music issue, which will be published in early October.

Billboard Group editorial director Tamara Conniff says the country star was chosen for the honor because of her wide success in music, television, movies and publishing.reba-mcentire.jpg

“Reba is an inspiration to women everywhere and we are delighted to be presenting her with this award,” Conniff said.

McEntire, 53, has a new album of duets coming out next week that pairs her with artists such as Justin Timberlake, Don Henley, Kelly Clarkson, Kenny Chesney, Carole King and Faith Hill.

“I am thrilled to be selected as Woman of the Year by Billboard,” McEntire said in a statement. “Although my career has taken me to TV, film and Broadway, music is and always will be my first love. I am touched to be embraced in such a warm way.”

McEntire grew up on a cattle ranch in Oklahoma, where her father, Clark McEntire, was a champion calf roper.

After being discovered by cowboy singer Red Steagall in 1974, she struggled through the late ’70s to build a singing career in Nashville. She scored her first major hit in 1980 with “(You Lift Me Up) to Heaven.” Her other No. 1 hits include “Little Rock” and “What Am I Gonna Do About You.”

Kanye West Throws Another Tantrum After Losing At MTV Awards

kanye-west-mtv.jpg

Kanye West says he’ll never return to MTV. The 29-year-old rapper, who was shut out at the Video Music Awards on Sunday night, threw a tantrum in front of media and crew backstage as the MTV show was ending. Can’t he simply be gracious enough to accept the truth that there is someone who has performed better than he has and the recognition deserves to be given to that person? He puts his foot in his mouth often, but playing the race card? Not kool……”That’s two years in a row, man … give a black man a chance,” can’t believe he said that. Instead of throwing the race card and a tantrum he should have thrown his a$$ of the hotel balcony. Does he really expect to just be handed an award just becuz he missed out two yrs in a row? He really has an ego. I thought being nominated for an award was recognition in itself, but today winning matters the most and they want to win by hook or crock.

Unprintable ‘Saturday Night Live’ Song Featuring Justin Timberlake Up For Emmy On Saturday

justin_timberlake.jpg

Ran into some folks on the plane who know both Justin and Britney and they all said Justin is a control freak and not the innocent guy he portrays. i.e. when he flipped off the fans in Europe…Careful Justin you don’t want to blow your cover. Soon the truth will rear its ugly head J.T. Good luck buddy. Over all you have to give it to this guy, the way he’s maintained his status as a clean and out of trouble celebrity no father will ever doubt this guy when his girl is out on a date with her. Originality here is like a fake Levis’ pair of jeans, a duplicate/faked Levis’ jeans manufactured in India or China cost just about nothing more than what one would pay of a clean pair of rag clothes but still it has so many buyers that people flaunt with a degree of satisfaction. Same for Justin, he’s a complete fake person, posing to be someone who he really isn’t but yet manages to trick all of us.

The ‘Queen Of Country Music’ Returns With ‘Reba Duets

One of the undisputed legends of Country Music, Reba McEntire has sold more than 60 million records in a career that spans three decades, 29 albums, 33 No. 1 singles, 15 American Music Awards, 12 Academy of Country Music Awards, 7 Country Music Association Awards, 2 Grammy’s and the CMT Johnny Cash Visionary Award. Reba, the Queen of Country Music? I don’t think so. That title belongs to Kitty Wells. Everyone is in the rat race to become a self proclaimed Queen of pop, of Country Music, of R&B but none are actually anywhere near to accomplish meager success like Elvis Presley or some other great artist of the past century had achieved and yet the title seems to be crowned even if a album is successful in selling a million copies worldwide. Shania Twain has tasted much success too but I won’t rate her as the queen of country music either. Yet is she can continue her road to grand success may be one day she could be a self proclaimed Queen but not a title that could be won by her.

The Mercury Prize

blog2-fionn-regan.jpg

The Mercury Prize nominees have been announced. For those not in the know, the annual Mercury Music Prize awards recognizes the best in British music regardless of genre or style ever since 1992.

Independent panelists of industry experts, journalist, record executives and the like select 12 ‘Albums of the Year’ before choosing an overall winner on the night of the Mercury Music Show. The US started the equivalent Shortlist Awards a few years ago.

Four notable nominations are for Amy Winehouse, who I think is the front runner with ‘Back to Black’; Fionn Regan, the guy pictured, with his ‘The End of History’; Bat for Lashes with ‘Fur and Gold’; and New Young Pony Club with ‘Fantastic Playroom’.

Bono Is Officially a Knight

I am sure you heard at least once so far about one of the many humanitarian works did by U2 front man known as Bono. He surely made an impact on music and what is remarkable is that he did not stop there. With so many rock and pop stars only thinking about getting more money it is a delight to see one that is recognized for his efforts in promoting not only music but something more important as well.

The Irish rock star was just acknowledged for his actions and was appointed the title of knight by British Ambassador David Reddaway. Bono accepted the “Award” and was happy as he should be. Few celebrities have received this title and the fact that the U2 front man is among them says a lot about how his humanitarian work impacted the public.
