Madonna Talks Freed Gay Malawian Couple

In what could only be described as a true testament to Madonna’s power, the Malawi government has agreed to release a gay couple arrested on the charge of being homosexual. Upon hearing the news, the Queen of Pop began a crusade against the ruling and became very vocal about the injustice of putting two men in prison for 14 years because they were brave enough to be themselves. The singer’s efforts along with her fans, was enough to get the president of Malawi to concede. The couple was released from prison on humanitarian grounds this past Saturday. Madonna posted a message to her blog saying “I have always believed love conquers all—yesterday I got to see it in action. In the last week over 30,000 of you added your name to mine calling for the release of Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalangal—the Malawi couple sentenced to 14 years hard labor for the “crime” of homosexuality. With incredible joy, I am writing to share with you that Malawi President Bingu wa Mutharika has ordered their release.”

Brandy Blogs Hate

Brandy has sounded off on negativity online via her Vibe.com blog and asked people to think twice before passing judgment. The R&B singer wrote “I’m a very strong person, but some of those things that people say about me on blogs make me cry. I don’t like it. And what’s so frustrating is that I don’t get a chance to retaliate. Because y’all are not posting y’all pictures on the blogs. I can’t respond and I can’t be negative back because that’s just not me… It affects us….It really does. We’re people at the end of the day with feelings. You know we’re sensitive because we’re artists. You know that stuff is going to hurt sometimes.”

GLAAD Reacts to Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin recently revealed that he is gay, writing in his blog that “I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am.” GLAAD president Jarrett Barrios has reacted to the news. He said “When someone like Ricky Martin comes out, hundreds of millions of people now have a cultural connection with an artist, a celebrity and, perhaps most importantly, a father who happens to be gay. His decision to model this kind of openness and honesty can lead to greater acceptance for countless gay people in U.S., in Latin America and worldwide.”

Nelly Furtado Gets Lost in Translation

Nelly Furtado is set to release her first album recorded entirely in Spanish. The singer has already done some work in non-English music scene with two duets with Columbian singer Juanes. Nelly has also announced plans for a Portuguese album on her MySpace blog. It’s good to branch out. And if her songs with Juanes are any indication, she’s going to do a pretty good job with her new venture. Let’s not forget that Nelly is also Portuguese. Latin music is pretty much in her blood. I wish her the best of luck with this new facet of her career.

Taylor Swift talks about Sad Songs

Taylor Swift recently went to her official blog to talk about love songs. More importantly, she talked about sad love songs. Me thinks she was listening to them as therapy for having been dumped by Joe Jonas over the phone. Who wouldn’t be depressed after that? She said “I just got back from a 5 show run on the road. Now I’m sitting in my kitchen..on the counter. Eating cool whip. And trying to think of things to do with my free time. Other than talking to my cat and making playlists of sad songs.

Rihanna proves that she’s the new Princess of Pop as her latest single ‘Take a Bow’ had an opening week of 267,000 digital downloads which puts the track at the number one spot on the Hot Digital Songs chart in the US. Rihanna also made a huge rise to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 by jumping from #53 to #1. She has made the second highest jump in Billboard history with the highest going to Maroon 5 with ‘Makes Me Wonder’ which jumped from #64 to #1 last year. Rihanna also has 2 of the top 3 opening-week downloads in history. She was surpassed by Mariah Carey’s ‘Touch My Body’ with 286,000 downloads last month which beat Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’ with 277,000. At the rate she’s going, Rihanna will be beating out Mariah soon.

John Mayer Likes to Play

In a self-conscious fit last Friday, John Mayer deleted al of his past entries from his official blog and claimed to be â€œDONE & DUSTED & SELF-CONSCIOUS & BACK TO WORK.â€ But it seems that he has updated that latest and supposedly last entry on Saturday.

At the end of his last entry, the singer left a quote saying â€œThere is danger in theoretical speculation of battle, in prejudice, in false reasoning, in pride, in braggadocio. There is one safe resource, the return to natureâ€¦â€ He linked the â€˜nâ€™ in speculation to a time travel forum. On Saturday, he updated the entry by removing that link and inserting a link on the entire work resource which links to a garbled webpage at Potatloland.com which has links to a lot of YouTube videos. It looks like John likes to play with our minds.

Another Spice Blog

The start of the Spice Girls world tour is only a few weeks away yet we havenâ€™t heard anything regarding their practices and whatnot. But just to keep us all entertained and interested, Posh Spice is back with a blog entry on the girlsâ€™ official website.

In it, she talks about her guest appearance on â€˜Ugly Bettyâ€™, the upcoming Victoriaâ€™s Secret fashion show as well as her charity work with Children in Need. But most importantly, she talks about whatâ€™s up with rehearsals and such.

Everything seems to be going alright and she seems to be very excited, even sharing that her family now laughs at her for practicing her routines around the house. She also gushed about the clothes that Roberto Cavalli is working on for their tour. Now, Iâ€™m just as excited as her!
