American Idol champ Carrie Underwood joined Brad Paisley in a live special tribute to country music legend Eddy Arnold during the 43rd Annual Academy of County Music Awards which was held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday. The event was hosted by Reba McEntire for the tenth time and was attended by country music’s best. Carrie being chosen to be part of the tribute shows just how much she has grown as an artist since her American Idol days. The show works – for some people that is. And Carrie’s a big sweetheart anyway. Everyone absolutely loves her.

Jason Mraz is a Copycat

Jason Mraz has a new album and with that, a new single. But me thinks that the single isn’t that new at all. His duet with Colbie Caillat called ‘Lucky’ sounds eerily familiar. The song actually sounds like ‘David’, a gem of a song from little-known singer Nellie McCkay, who released her song four years ago. The chorus of Jason’s song ‘Lucky’ sounds completely identical to that of Nellie’s ‘David’. The song structure for both songs are also very similar. It’s too big of a coincidence to say that someone didn’t copy off the other. What is the music world coming to?

Rihanna and Maroon 5 are teaming up for a remake of the song ‘If I Never See Your Face Again’ which will appear on re-releases of both big-name artisits. Rihanna and Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine spoke to MTV News about it with Rihanna saying “We’re both re-releasing our albums — mine’s out June 17. This is the only collaboration on my re-release, because I always wanted to work with Maroon 5. They’re one of my favorite bands. When they called me to do this record with them, I was so honored.” Adam then adds “The song was basically done, but we wanted to try something different, so we had her come in and do bits and pieces. It came together so quick. The only other collaboration I had done before was with Kanye, and it was the same way. It sounds cheesy, but if the magic is there, if the chemistry is there, you don’t even have to think about it.”

Britney Spears and Heidi Montag have a duet called ‘Dramatic’

Britney Spears and Heidi Montag have recorded a duet together called ‘Dramatic’. It’s not what it seems though, especially when you take into account that one half of the team is a pop wreck and the other is part of ‘The Hills’. Both stars did appear on the track but it was not authorized by Brit. An insider reveals that “Heidi and Spencer got their hands on an old demo recording of Britney’s that never made it onto any of her albums… They decided to turn it into a duet instead of having Heidi re-record the song with just her vocals because they knew they’d get more press this way. ”

Amy Winehouse almost gave organizers of the Brit Awards a heart attack due to worrying after she missed her rehearsals on Monday. Fortunatly, Wino showed up on Tuesday and ran through her performance with Mark Ronson on their duet ‘Valerie’ which was originally sung by the Zutons. Later on in the evening, the 5-time Grammy winner and her producer hit up London’s Jazz After Dark.

It’s nice to see that she’s keeping up with her work. That only means that she’s finally got her priorities straight. Now if she could just split with her incarcerated husband then all will be good in the world.

Robyn Does Snoop Dogg

Robyn Does Snoop Dogg

Who knew that a Swedish dance pop sensation can take a hip hop song, make it a duet and actually get it to sound amazing? Robyn has put her magic on Snoop Dogg’s new single ‘Sexual Eruption’ into a duet and completely made the song her own. Her rework of the song is definitely something different and special. There aren’t any words to express just how amazing her job on it was. The original song was already hot but Robyn just brought it to a whole other level. Robyn may just be the most exciting force in pop music right now.

t.A.T.u Singer Gives Birth

t.A.T.u.’s most famous ‘achievement’ to date is making everyone think that they’re a lesbian duo. The two Russian singers recently posed for the Russian Maxim while one of them was clearly very pregnant. Class act, eh?

Now, it’s being reported that the then pregnant 22-year old Yulia Volkova has given birth to a baby boy on Thursday. The bouncing baby boy join’s Yulia’s 3-year old daughter Viktoria. And just to show how classy Yulia is, the two kids have different fathers. Can you say slut? She definitely gets around doesn’t she? From her partner to Viktoria’s dad to the boy’s dad – can’t she make up her mind?

Kylie X-Factor

Kylie Minogue

The winner of X-Factor 2008 says he got the best Christmas present ever by being given the chance to duet with the sensational pop-star Kylie Minogue.

I am sure it is every male’s dream to duet with the gorgeous Kylie, especially judging on what she wore. Some people would say that her sexy skimpy outfit wasn’t exactly suitable for family TV – though I expect it kept the male viewers tuned in which can’t have hurt the ratings.

But did Leon win on his own talent and ability or did he win thanks to his duet? The debate is bound to continue…

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson Go Karaoke

Pete and Ashlee Go Karaoke

Fall Out Boy ‘front man’ Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson both attended ‘Vive Le Karaoke’ at the Angels & Kings bar in New York City on Monday night. The event was hosted by Nylon Magazine, designer Tommy Hilfiger and Crush.

Pete opened up his new bar Angels & Kings this past April and he has described it by saying “And I’m not the kind of person that’s like, ‘All right, I’ll meet up with you guys later,’ It’s like, what’s the fun in going out to a place if you’re just sitting around in a VIP lounge with a bunch of other people on their BlackBerrys?…This is a bar for all the rejects.”

K, if you say so.

Billboard names Reba woman of the year

Billboard magazine has picked for its first “Woman of the Year” award. The magazine says the award coincides with its second annual Women in Music issue, which will be published in early October.

Billboard Group editorial director Tamara Conniff says the country star was chosen for the honor because of her wide success in music, television, movies and publishing.reba-mcentire.jpg

“Reba is an inspiration to women everywhere and we are delighted to be presenting her with this award,” Conniff said.

McEntire, 53, has a new album of duets coming out next week that pairs her with artists such as Justin Timberlake, Don Henley, Kelly Clarkson, Kenny Chesney, Carole King and Faith Hill.

“I am thrilled to be selected as Woman of the Year by Billboard,” McEntire said in a statement. “Although my career has taken me to TV, film and Broadway, music is and always will be my first love. I am touched to be embraced in such a warm way.”

McEntire grew up on a cattle ranch in Oklahoma, where her father, Clark McEntire, was a champion calf roper.

After being discovered by cowboy singer Red Steagall in 1974, she struggled through the late ’70s to build a singing career in Nashville. She scored her first major hit in 1980 with “(You Lift Me Up) to Heaven.” Her other No. 1 hits include “Little Rock” and “What Am I Gonna Do About You.”

The ‘Queen Of Country Music’ Returns With ‘Reba Duets

One of the undisputed legends of Country Music, Reba McEntire has sold more than 60 million records in a career that spans three decades, 29 albums, 33 No. 1 singles, 15 American Music Awards, 12 Academy of Country Music Awards, 7 Country Music Association Awards, 2 Grammy’s and the CMT Johnny Cash Visionary Award. Reba, the Queen of Country Music? I don’t think so. That title belongs to Kitty Wells. Everyone is in the rat race to become a self proclaimed Queen of pop, of Country Music, of R&B but none are actually anywhere near to accomplish meager success like Elvis Presley or some other great artist of the past century had achieved and yet the title seems to be crowned even if a album is successful in selling a million copies worldwide. Shania Twain has tasted much success too but I won’t rate her as the queen of country music either. Yet is she can continue her road to grand success may be one day she could be a self proclaimed Queen but not a title that could be won by her.
